5 Big Reasons to start Blogging in 2010

Lately, I’ve been hearing more and more people considering blogging, especially the ones who are on Twitter. The truth is, if you’ve ever thought about starting one and haven’t yet, why not? It doesn’t cost you anything to start and you can get a feel of what blogging is all about. Below are 5 reasons why it’s still not too late to start blogging in 2010.
1) One Identity
Remember the times before Myspace, when everyone went on Internet as anonymous? Then think about now when we can simply run a quick search with someone’s name for access to photos, interests, and everything. This trend is not going to stop, privacy is an issue but online identity is slowly merging with the offline identity into one. Your blog should express who you are and what you really love, thinking of ways to boost traffic is the wrong approach to start a blog.
2) Your Niche is waiting
As of March 2008, Universal McCann reported that 77% of global internet users are blog readers, and it’s been increasing since then. Meaning no matter what your passion is, or what you blog about, there is still a crowd who are just like you and are desperate to hear about your opinions and messages.
3) Twitter is not enough
Although the trend of micro-blogging and location-based services will continue to grow, “blogs will continue to flourish as people realize that micro-blogging needs a “home base” (mentioned by Taly Weiss via John Bell). Think about Twitter the conversation you have in a noisy bar, overall layout and design as the clothes you wear, and blogging would be to show your true personality outside of the bar. You can meet many people in this noisy bar, but people can’t really get to know you very well.
4) Hiring in 2010

This graph shows the job trend for “Social Media” by Indeed.com. As you can see, social media is becoming common in job ads, it will soon become the basic skill people should have in many industries. You will be Googled before/ after your job interviews, would they pick you over other people who own blogs that show their passion? I wrote a more detailed post about this during my Internship at Ogilvy.
5) It changes your life
I know it is cliche! But you can ask any blogger and they will tell you this same thing. Blogging doesn’t only educate readers, it educates the writers even more. In 2010, when social media continues to break news, and free knowledge continues to spread online, blogging can help you start paying more attention to what’s happening around you. (“you have to be there to know it!!”)
I can help?
