Sex Sells: Summary of Carls Jr’s Social Media Campaign

Some of you might have already heard about this campaign in the US, I don’t have to explain further on how effective sex sells in advertising, it’s been creating buzz on many social media channels. It is a campaign by Carls Jr. a fast food restaurant chain in the US, they have been using sex appeal for awhile in their previous ads, this is one of them.
Thought it would be interesting to see the social media tactics they used to make this successful case.
1. Sexy Youtube Video
Uploaded to drive traffic to the Facebook Page. There are also 2 other videos with Kim Kardasian asking viewers to join her online “salad date” (Tactic 3).
2. Facebook Page
With impressive number of fans (75,000s), high response rate by fans with positive comments.

3. Online Live Chat Event for new product
“The ultimate Salad date with Kim Kardasian” is an open Facebook live video chat session with Kim powered by ustream, it happened on Jan 13th.


4. Augmented Reality Invitation
What you have to do is to print out (in my case, took a picture with my iphone) the code pattern, then show it on your webcam like any other Augmented Reality apps. Kim Kardasian will pop out and invite you to join the live chat. After that it gives you a few options like “kiss”, “jump”, “punch” and other actions that you can request her to do.
Below is how I used my iphone to get Kim Kardasian out.

5. Kim Kardasian’s Twitter Account
This is another powerful tactic to drive traffic to the live chat and Facebook fanpage, mostly from Kim’s existing fan base with almost 3 million Twitter Followers.
