Why Tweetup?

Some of you might have seen tweets about the Ogilvy’s APAC Digital Influence Summit lately. Ogilvy’s DI Summit is an internal event held by the Asia Pacific Regional team where all the digital experts from around the region will be attending a 3-day event in Hong Kong to exchange digital knowledge, connect and bond with other team

Although the event is not open for public, we would like to offer you a chance to meet our team, head of the global digital influence team John Bell will also be flying all the way from Washington DC! It is a very rare opportunity for you to meet all of us at once, in the offline world!

When?

Tweetup will be held this Sunday, June 27th at 7pm. Not the perfect timing for tweetup but due to the World Cup schedule, this is the only time when venues are available.

Where?

Tweetup will be held in RED Soho as usual.

Thanks everyone for attending the Tweetup from last Tuesday (March 2nd), also hope our 3 guests Brian Giesen, Tom Smith and Jenny Armshaw-Heak had fun. More than 20 people joined the tweetup and I’m glad most of us had a chance to meet each others. Would also like to thank the venue sponsor RED SoHo and @GeoffTwitchen for arranging the “Tweetup Corner” for us!

I will be hosting my 2nd tweetup of 2010 on March 2nd. This tweetup is going to be a little different from the previous ones, we will have 2 special guests (actually 3) this time.

@bdgiesen is my colleague in Ogilvy who’s based in Sydney Australia,  he’s is an award-winning, founding member of Ogilvy’s 360 Degree Digital Influence group and passionate word of mouth marketing practitioner. Brian is extremely experienced in the field, he will be in Hong Kong for one night and we will be lucky enough to have him in the tweetup. (Here’s his bio)

Tom Smith

Tom Smith (@tomtrendstream) is the founder of a technology and social media trend research company Trendstream. He’s also the project leader of the Global Web Index and created Wave @ Universal McCann. He will be in Hong Kong for the FutureWebAsia Event for the Asia launch of Global Web Index. Tom will also come along with another speaker from the event, Jenny Armshaw-Heak (@globalwebasia), who’s the Business Development Director of Lightspeed Research.

As some of us have discussed during the The Last Tweetup of 2009, we are now beginning the year with the “First Tweetup of 2010″. I’m glad that there was a significant growth of Twitter usage in Hong Kong in 2009, I believe 2010 will be the year when Twitter really takes off in Hong Kong, and many other Asian countries.

Never attended a Tweetup before?

Tweetup is basically a meetup organized for all Hong Kong Twitter users to meet and connect in real life. So basically everyone with a Twitter account is welcomed, we all like to meet new people! Check the pictures from our last Tweetup.

Where will it be?

We had the last Tweetup at the Canny Man in Wanchai. It is a place where people can actually chat and relax. It’s located at the basement of Wharney Guang Dong Hotel (香港華美粵海酒店) on Lockhart Road. The exact address is 57-73 Lockhart Road, Wanchai Hong Kong, click here to Google Map it!

When?

Thursday 14th January. Some people get off work late, others have work early the next day, so I think around 8pm is good. My ex colleague @Tortue, who’s now one of the pioneers of a Taiwanese startup will be in Hong Kong again from France.

Time flies! To be in my home town working in a fun environment with great people (Thomas Crampton, Jean Francoise Amadei and more) for 4 months really made me feel like it was just a few weeks. It’s time for me to head back to Toronto.

I decided to create a casual gathering (a Tweetup) for all the social media lovers here in Hong Kong to relax, to have fun and hopefully connect interesting people who haven’t met each others in person before (Twittersphere is full of talented people).

I asked both of them today about meeting up tomorrow and “surprisingly” both of them are available tomorrow. @Tortue tweeted about it and we got more and more feedback asking for the time and location. So I thought it would be a good idea to make a blog post about it to give you more information on this small event.
